he disappearance of Liam Ollivander was startling to say the least. The wizarding world that James Potter so loved seemed like there was now a dent - a crack in the window from an unsuspecting rock hitting the windshield that guarded them all from harm. James wasn't sure what to think - was this a simple disappearance, or was it more? He wasn't sure, but he intended to find out. However, that evening, all he intended to do was get drunk off his arse, hang out with a few of his pals that would soon be off to Hogwarts, and maybe take home a girl if he deemed it appropriate.
[break][break]
Trying to mature - yes. Succeeding? Hardly.[break][break]
James was at his parents' house the entire day since they wanted to do a family dinner before Albus went off to Hogwarts - fine, he supposed. He and Albus weren't the best of pals, surely, but he'd bid his brother adieu, if only simply for his mother. Ginny Weasley was stubborn, combative, fierce, but she was also a sweetheart and the best mother to him. He would do absolutely anything for her, as long as it didn't involve something involving one of the botherest of the long list of uncles and aunts of the Weasley family. Surely they should have all died off by now but, of course, they hadn't. Tending to an old bag who throws biscuits and tea at you because the tea was hot, when you could barely feel it in your palm, was something James would not do for simply anyone. His mother was indeed special.
[break][break]
James finally stretched out of his old bed and stood in front of the elongated mirror on the back of his previous bedroom door. It felt...so homely to be there again, though he knew his flat that he and his mates had moved into was far more convenient and comfortable for his current lifestyle. Still, to be home, to be in his old room he grew up in, was quaint and welcoming. As he stared at himself in the mirror, adjusting the wrinkles in his white tshirt and flattening the crease down his dark jeans, he wondered what the hurry was in growing up - he felt a pang of insufficiency inside his chest, wondering if he was doing right. Maybe he should move home, maybe he should stay with his parents and be a kid again, feeling nothing but the weight of Potions exams on his shoulders....[break][break]
Reality set in.
[break][break]
Maybe not.[break][break]
He grinned sheepishly at himself and then left the bedroom, treading quickly down the stairs and into the kitchen. Giving his mum and dad a hug each before he went off, James held his mother a second or two longer than he might have normally. The disappearance of Liam was getting to him more than he let on - or, more, that he realized. After walking out the front door, James disapparated to the the door of the Hog's Head and gladly walked in. A great cheer awaited him and a wide grin quickly found its place across his lips. He raised his hand in greeting and immediately went over to the mates his age who were getting in on the fun, clapping Tom on the back and having a seat next to him. "So, gents, ready for a night of complete debauchery?" he asked slyly, his face giving off the impression that he was up to no good.
[break][break]It wasn't simply an impression, but more a fact than all else. Let the games begin.
