Nina rarely went anywhere without her traveling companion- her chimpanzee, Amadeus. When Nina was younger, her Muggle mother, Glinda Devoll, had discovered that she had her inherited the ability to talk to apes from her Wizard father, Peter Devoll, when Nina began chatting it up with the chimps in the humane lab that Glinda worked in. When Nina's mother saw what good mates Nina and Amadeus had become, she arranged for Nina to adopt him. And again, Nina took him all over. He even went with her to Hogwarts when she attended there. True a chimp was an odd pet to bring, but to Nina he wasn't a pet. He was a friend and an equal.
Nina carried Amadeus into the Menagerie and looked around for a few things for the little room the Devoll Family had set up for Amadeus. The chimp didn't seem thrilled about the shopping expedition.
"Nina, I don't see why we have to get more things for my room," he said. "My room is perfectly fine. I have plenty to occupy myself."
"Oh listen to you," chuckled Nina. She spoke her language and he spoke his "language", but they understood each other perfectly via magic. "Just the other day you were saying your room needed a bit of a fix, and now you've changed your mind." Nina chuckled. "Oh I know why. You want to go the Leaky Cauldron and get another fruit salad, don't you?"
"Well... as a matter of fact... yes," said the chimp. "I'm famished, aren't you?"
"Not really," said Nina. "We just had breakfast two hours ago."
"Two whole hours?" said Amadeus. "Well no wonder I'm starving!" Nina rolled her eyes.
"Okay, okay," she said. "We'll go right after this, I promise. You can have a fruit salad and I guess I'll have a butterbeer." Nina raised an eyebrow. "Hmmm, actually a butterbeer doesn't sound bad. Okay, we'll hurry here."
