When Darach Wood was an infant, people who came to visit used to say two things about him. One was how utterly adorable he was. He was a baby after all, and babies had a terrible habit of being utterly adorable. Two was that some day he was going to be a great Quidditch Player just like his father, Oliver Wood. Well... they ended up being half right. Darach was an adorable baby who was growing into a handsome young man. If he got anything from his father, it was certainly his looks... well and his charm too as Darach was a little ladies man. However, Darach had no plans to play Quidditch. He didn't hate the sport, but he was not a huge fan either. His current goal was to be an Auror, and if he was fortunate some day, a Hit Wizard. He even had a back-up plan to be a book critic. He was certainly well read enough for that.
But his main focus was to be an Auror/Possible Hit Wizard and he felt that practice, and lots of it, made perfect. So with Professor Grimp's permission, he stayed after Defense Against The Dark Arts class and practiced some wand dueling. Another Gryffindor boy his age agreed to stay around and help him practice in return for Darach helping the boy with his History of Magic project. The boy did ask Darach to avoid using some harsher spells, which he agreed to. Really, it wasn't as if Darach was going to do such a thing to begin with.
With Grimp watching on, Darach stood back to back with the boy and they walked ten paces before they turned. Darach decided to use an ancient pose he'd been practicing and hit a Stupefy spell. It succeeded, and while his opponent was alright, it did rock him a bit.
