Words: 481 | Teddy could say this much - they were spacious quarters. It was actually a wonder no other teacher had taken up residence in the West Tower; perhaps it was the constant traffic of flapping in and out of the owlery only one level immediately above. But to Teddy it was a comforting noise, not as comforting as the ebb and flow of the sea outside his window would have been, but it was definitely the opposite of urban... which suited him. It also meant that Isis could maintain a perch here as well as above with her own kind, so that he might have some company for the good many nights of wolfsbane potion-induced waiting for shifts to end that awaited him. With a final look out the largest window at the Stone Circle below and the loch in the distance, he turn back towards the expansive quarters where Victoire was meticulously fitting dull gold velvet canopy drapes to the four post bed that Teddy told himself, every time he looked at it, was too large for one person alone. It had been a concession he was glad to make - not that he had a great deal of decision in the matter, but he was grateful for the result nonetheless. As a member of Hogwarts' staff he, like all the others, was expected to live solitarily, without his significant other. And Vee, for all the disappointed fight she put up, had responsibilities to St. Mungo's as well. All the same, when it came time for Teddy with rucksack so massively stretched with an Undetectable Extension charm as to fit several trunks and an entire bedroom set - most items donated from various members of the family - slung over his shoulder to make his scheduled disapparation into Hogsmeade, he broke down and begged the love of his life to come help him settle in. If only for a half-day more ahead of a long and lonely autumn. "You know I'd be lost without you for this sort of thing," he said with a weak smile. "Probably would have just tossed a mattress on the floor, maybe a bookshelf or two. No amount of comforts are going to make this feel like home, though. Home to me is a person, not a place." It occurred to Teddy that was, at least to those who knew his history, an odd thing to say considering that he'd often felt more at home at Hogwarts when he was a student than he did at his gran's home, perhaps in no small part because he'd thought his parents' spirits still lingered about the Astronomy Tower where they'd been killed. But he loved Victoire as he'd never loved anyone in his life, and despite what he might show outwardly, this forced separation was going to be as much an imposition on him as it was her. Yet her mother warned her about this. The duty of a Order Member was always going to be first then the love they had. While she knew the risk yet she was going to have a problem with this. Missing Teddy Lupin was going to painful but she knew he had the same thoughts with it. Victoire did wonder why she heard it so late from him. Maybe it was a feeling she had for him, that she thought it was so late. Maybe it was her heart telling that if she helped him he was going to be gone forever. Those things were getting through her head until her heart told her to help him. Vee took the day off, knowing she had to see and help him. It was the best thing she could do for him and give the support. It probably was because he begged her to come and help him. "You know I'd be lost without you for this sort of thing,"She heard his words as she looked up taking a few stuff out of the trunks he had took with him. "You got your job to do, and to help the students, you know that."She said as she put a few more stuff down. " "Probably would have just tossed a mattress on the floor, maybe a bookshelf or two. No amount of comforts are going to make this feel like home, though. Home to me is a person, not a place.". Those words gave her a reason he didn't enjoy this, but that he had to do. Who was she then to deny this and not let him do it for the greater good. She put the stuff on the ground as she walked over to him. Pulling him closer she gave him a kiss. She stopped it after a minute as she looked him in his eyes. "Do this for yourself and for the students. Remember I will always be in your heart as your girlfriend."She said giving him another kiss. The words were correct. Girlfriend. It was almost like a fear Teddy Remus Lupin had to make Vee his. She could dream of the day, she could stand there in a white dress. To look into his eyes and say yes. To be named Victoire Lupin. Yet he always avoided the question of marriage, and so she soon stopped asking, as she still loved him no matter if they were wife and husband, or just girlfriend and boyfriend. The love was real that was for sure. Words: 412 | It didn't take a legilimens - not that Teddy was one - to see that Victoire was doing this in spite of what she really wanted. Really all it took was someone with a properly functioning ear as their initial arguing back home had gotten so loud it had required sensible heads to cast a charm to prevent inside noise from getting out. Teddy knew that deep down there was almost certainly a part of her, though she certainly wouldn't admit it, that suspected that he wanted this, as an escape from the doldrums of real life, real responsibility, and very real expectations. He knew this because, though he certainly wouldn't admit it, it was at least a little true. It was something he suspected that maybe only his godfather could ever understand; there were unresolved issues with a past and people in it that predated any memory he had, issues that needed resolution before he could take that next step forward. This was certainly his father's sense of duty standing front and center, right alongside his mother's sense of right from wrong and belief in defending the former in the face of the later. When Victoire kissed him, he knew she knew all of this. She was stronger than he was, whether she knew that or not. She had always been his rock. And that too was a question of a different sort that needed answering - if he was going to be her rock, he had to be capable of being one for himself first. "You're so much more than that." He knew what she was fishing at; Victoire was certainly capable of being silkily subtle but when it came to certain subjects she was about as blunt as a troll's clenched fist. "You're the love of my life. You're strong. You carry people. You carry me." He looked longingly back into her eyes. "I'm doing this for everyone - for myself, for the students, for our families, for Wizardkind, for my parents... and most importantly for us." He took the remnants of what was in her hands, a sterling-framed picture of the two of them from several Christmases ago - her tickling at his ribs through his sweat and he trying not to laugh, and strode over to set it down on the bedside table, looking back with a smile. "And it's time I started carrying the load for myself, so that I can carry you for a change."VICTOIRE APOLLINE WEASLEY |
