The fog so well associated with London drifted through the night, and it made Knocturn Alley all the more chilling. Deep in the alley was Borgin and Burkes. Thought it was nearly midnight, the dim lights in the store was now on. At the moment, a single, grim figure could be seen walking around.
Dathan Burke looked over the pocket watch in his hand. In all his years, he had never seen a cursed pocket watch, but given the variety of items he had seen in his time, he of course believed such a thing could exist. He had seen far stranger after all. The legend behind the watch was that its original owner had lived a long, but painful and miserable life. The wizard only died after he had destroyed it. However, a witch, who had heard of the watch and desperately sought long life at any price, repaired it, but in the end, she too destroyed it in order to die. Someone else repaired it, and the process continued for a few centuries. And now Dathan had the chance to own it thanks to one of his hired smugglers... or rather try to sell it to someone else. Dathan would love to live forever, but only if he enjoyed such time. He was no fool, and if so many had suffered so much because of the watch, he wasn't going to allow himself to fall in the same predicament.
Would he be a bit sneaky in selling it? Of course he would. He wasn't above such things in his line of work. But he had to be clever. So... why not simply tell the buyer it guaranteed long life and say nothing more? It wasn't has if he'd be lying to them. He would simply be telling only half the truth.
