What had started out as a hope for a quick discovery (and possible rescue) had slowly dwindled into a potentially harsh reality. It had been a month since Draco Malfoy had promised the same recovery of Liam Ollivander. Never one to sit about idly, he himself had made a strong effort to locate the man. However, he, the Aurors, everyone in the Ministry involved had come up short. And because of that, the backlash had started. Ollivander's family began to lose faith and hope. The people of the wizarding world began to share that loss. Even those in the Ministry began to wonder if their leader would be able to truly do his job in something other than peace time...
And Draco began to doubt himself.
Stepping up before the masses, his eyes showed far less hope than they did before his speech a month ago. But he had to tell the people something. He had to keep the Daily Prophet from tearing him and the Ministry apart. He had to preserve the peace.
"Good morning," he said. "I know many of you have been disheartened by the fact that our friend Liam Ollivander has not been recovered. I share in that pain, I sincerely do. But know that the Ministry has not ceased to make his recovery a priority. However, as we continue to do our very best to find Ollivander, we ask you the fine wizards and witches of England to aid us in our search. If you see anyone or anything suspicious, do not hesitate to report to the Ministry. Your information could very well help return Ollivander to his friends and family. However, we also ask all in our society to take the utmost caution. If there is dark magic at the heart of this, it is possible that those dark wizards and witches will not finish with Ollivander's kidnapping. I am hardly saying we are at war again, but as history has shown us, even in peace time there are those who walk among us who seek to cause us harm. Good day."
Draco then turned, closed his eyes, and sighed. Had he truly helped the situation? The flood of questions from the Prophet reporters behind him said otherwise.
