On December 13, Briony McGonagall gave birth to her first child, a girl that she named Eleanor Victoria, after her own mother. One year prior to, Eleanor's birth, Briony suffered from a miscarriage. Her birth was the best news for Briony and her husband, Robert. Eleanor and her family lived in a beautiful house near the River Otter near Ottery St. Catchpole. Her mother was a half-blood witch who worked as an auor and her father was a half-blood who worked at the Ministry. When summer came around, Eleanor would always go swimming, and she'd help her mother plant flowers in the garden. After her birth, her mother had three more children: Genevieve, Noah, and Abigail.[break][break]
Most of her childhood days were spent daydreaming about becoming someone important. Often she'd tell her mother she wanted to become an auror just like her. She read a lot, even as a little girl, and during good weather, one could always find her under the giant Cherry tree in her yard, reading a book, or playing with her siblings by the river. Her childhood was very quaint, very simple. She was very close with her aunt Minerva, with whom she visited every summer with her parents.[break][break]
She got her acceptance letter after she turned eleven. Both of her parents were very proud of her. Ellen had dreamt of attending Hogwarts for the longest time. When she arrived at the castle, she was in awe of how grand it was. Her childhood had been fairly guarded, after all. Hogwarts was a bit of a culture shock for her. She was sorted into Gryffindor, but proved to be a near hatstall, with the Sorting Hat conflicted between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. [break][break]
She excelled at Hogwarts. She was one of the brightest witches in her year, and was particularly gifted with transfiguration and charms but she struggled with potions and divination. Her mother was killed not long after she started her second year. The news of her death hit the young girl hard. Her mother had always been her hero, so it was not easy to lose her. Her father fell into a deep depression and could not care for his children adequately. Upon learning about this, her aunt Minerva started caring for Eleanor and her siblings. Ellen grew to respect the woman immensely.[break][break]
Most of her days were spent studying in the library. She attended Quidditch games and rooted enthusiastically for her house, but she was not nearly athletic enough to actually be on the team. For the most part, she was socially reclusive and preferred to be alone. Upon graduation, she had received high marks on her OWLs and NEWTs. She spoke with her aunt about becoming an animagus. Minerva agreed to help her, but she told her it wouldn't be easy by any means. After trying for the longest time, Eleanor was successful. Her animagus takes the form of a golden retriever. [break][break]
After Hogwarts, she got an internship at the Ministry. Her father and aunt were very proud of her. She did well for herself and eventually secured a decent job in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. It was there that she met her husband, Adrian, who was currently training to be an auror. Their relationship was merely platonic at first, but over the years, they realized they cared for each other as more than just friends. He was her support system just as she was his. [break][break]
She remained at the Ministry for a few years before she applied for a teaching job at Hogwarts. Ellen was not particularly fond of the Ministry, and she hated dealing with crooked politicians on a daily basis. With her aunt promoted to Headmistress, Hogwarts was in need of a Transfiguration Professor. Naturally, Ellen got the job. There was much talk that Minerva had hired her because of the familial relationship, but Ellen proved to be a more than adequate professor. She knew her subject quite well, and it was clear the old professor had been her mentor. Once she was settled in her new position, she and her husband wed. They went on to have four children.

When Minerva McGonagall finally retired from Hogwarts, Isobel took on her aunt's position as headmistress.
