Lochlan loved Autumn. Not just because the weather was so cool and it became so beautiful outside with the variety of colors, but because the season made him appreciate something he cherished all the more... life. With so much plantlife dying due to the coming of Winter and so many animals about to hibernate, it was nice to see life out and about one last time before the cold months ahead. One would think that someone who liked to hunt and fish would not think that way, but where Lochlan lived, hunting was essential at times, the entire animal was used, and Lochlan always showed gratitude for the life the animal gave. He never hunted for pure sport or because of any internal cruelty to harm another creature out of spite.
But the reason he cherished life most was because he didn't take it for granted since his father was killed. He appreciated that his mother was alive, his friends were alive, and that he himself was alive. And when he saw the world alive for the next couple of months, it brought a warmth to his heart and a smile to his face, even simple things such as hearing the birds sing and watching the squirrels and deer run about. Some might have found Lochlan silly for that, but that's the kind of soul he was.
Lochlan walked about the woods, looking about and taking in the clean, crisp air, he stopped and watched a nearby bird sitting on a tree and singing a merry tune. It was a Redwing, no doubt recently migrated to the United Kingdom. Lochlan particularly enjoyed seeing animals that paid a brief visit from other parts of the world. The Hufflepuff sat on a log and pulled an apple from his bag, munching it as he enjoyed the view.
