(The Wikia only mentions lessons fro years 3-5, so I decided to just do one lesson each month for all students as opposed to dividing threads up by Years. So all COMC Students are welcomed to join in.)
Hagrid was very excited to begin the new lessons. He had talked about the same magical creatures over and over through the years, but never grew tired of it. He especially loved teaching Care of Magical Creatures because he often got to take the students outdoors to meet the creatures themselves. He was not much of an indoors professor, and so more often than not, the students only saw the inside of the classroom for a few moments at the beginning of class for role call and the like. Once that was done, outside they went.
"Alright children, I gotta real treat for ya today," he said. "We're gonna learn about Hippogriffs. Hippogriffs are part giant eagle and part horse. Beautiful and fascinatin' creatures they are, related to the Griffin. Now be warned and be warned good, children. Hippogriffs are right proud creatures. You don't just approach'em like you would a cat or an owl. There's certain things you gotta do first before you can earn a Hippogriff's respect. Otherwise, yer lookin' at a nasty taste of its talons."
Hagrid then called Boldfeather, a young Hippogriff he had befriended from birth. Boldfeather flew in and Hagrid threw him a ferret.
"Now what you do when approachin' a Hippogriff ain't difficult, but you gotta follow it step by step. Now first thing is you bow and always remember to keep eye contact. If a Hippogriff like Boldfeather here finds favor with ya, he'll bow back. You let the Hippogriff approach you then. That's good manners to them. Then you can visit with'em and perhaps even become good mates. Who wants to try it out?"
