the cromwells were a long line of prestigious pureblood witches and wizards. they had it all; money, social acceptance, etc. however, that all ended when one man, scarlett's grandfather, fell in love with a muggle. this, in turn, made scarlett's father a halfblood, breaking pureblood tradition. her grandfather was no longer accepted in the family, making his younger brother the heir and the one to carry on the bloodline. geoffry, scarlett's father, followed in his own father's footsteps and ended up falling for someone with blood less than pure. however, she was muggleborn, not muggle. this, is where scarlett and her sister's story begins. first came emmaline, scarlett's older sister by two years. her parents loved the little girl dearly and was not expecting to have another child when their mother had become pregnant with scarlett. still, her parents loved the two girl's very much, even if scarlett wasn't planned.[break][break]
growing up, the two siblings were close, always doing things together and running around the house. they had their fights, but what siblings didn't? around the age of six, emmaline started showing signs of being magical, which intrigued the young scarlett. excitement also flooded her, giving her hope to be just like her; like her parents. but that day never came. scarlett never showed signs of being magical, and when her letter didn't arrive on her eleventh birthday, it became clear that she was a squib. her parents were disappointed, not in the fact that they had a squib for a daughter, but for their daughter who was clearly devastated by the realization. why did it have to be her? of course, she didn't wish it on her sister either, but ever since she learned of the magical world she wanted to be part of it. from then on, it seemed as though watching her sister leave for hogwarts caused more pain than anything else.[break][break]
despite scarlett's sweet persona and easy to get along with characteristics, muggle school was not where she belonged. the young redhead was so engrossed in learning about the magical world, that her peers found her odd. she never spoke of such things to the muggles. she knew better, but when everyone else read normal books, she read ones filled with magic and stories of creatures not of their world. learning about muggle things did not interest her as it should. it was hard for her to fully pay attention in class, when her mind was always on her sister's ability to go to the place she desired to be.[break][break]
knowing that she would never be able to make that dream a reality, scarlett planned on a career she could go to college for. it became apparent in her last years of high school that she wanted to be a teacher, an english one at that. in that case, she'd be able to let her imagination run wild as well as allow the children to do the same. so she went to college and graduated with a high gpa. but things took an unexpected turn the year she graduated. her sister surprised her with news of a job opening at hogwarts for muggle studdies. at first, scarlett was confused seeing as she had never attended and wasn't a witch. but once emma explained to her the details and that the headmistress was willing to speak to her, scarlett became overwhelmed with joy. and now at twenty-two, scarlett is starting her first year at hogwarts as the new muggle studies professor.
