[attr="class","CVcontent3temp1"]Rubeus Hagrid was getting on in years, there was no question about that. The eleven foot tall half-giant's skin had gotten a bit wrinkled and his long hair and beard had gone from black to gray to a beautiful white. His walk was a bit slower and he needed to rest a bit more than before, but let it be known to any who questioned that Hagrid was still very good at his job. He was also still as beloved by many of the students at Hogwarts as he was in the days when he aided in the growth and well-being of one Harry Potter. And finally, he was still as good a friend to both magical and non-magical creatures as he ever was.
That morning, he was out and about in the forest with his boarhound Sniffer. Sniffer appeared so much like his old beloved Fang. He acted much the same too, very docile and very loyal. He enjoyed the forest walks with Sniffer, though today's walk was not a casual one to get a whiff of the fresh winter air. Today he had a bit of a mission. A hippogriff had landed too fast and was caught in some nasty vines. And when he approached the beautiful beast, Hagrid of course knew the creature's name and just about everything else about him. The reason Hagrid knew the name was because he named it himself.
"Now Boldfeather," he said as he took out his umbrella. In it was hidden his wand. "This is the third time I've had to get you out of this fix, it is. You might want to try looking where you're goin' now and again when you descend." Hagrid's voice was one of gentle discipline. He would never speak harshly to a hippogriff. Not only was it unwise, but it was just not in Hagrid's kind nature. A little spell and Boldfeather was released. Hagird stroked the creature's head to comfort him. "Now that's a fella, that's a fella."
One of the third year students who reported Boldfeather getting trapped ran back over. Hagrid motioned for her to stop to prevent her from startling the beast, another thing that was unwise.
"Is it going to be alright?" she asked.
"Well it's a 'he' actually," chuckled Hagrid in calm correction. "And yeah... ole Boldfeather here will be ship-shape in no time. Just needs a good rest and a few ferrets in his belly." Hagrid then leaned closer. "You know you need to be careful when you approach a hippogriff, Ms. Mendle. They require a bit of etiquette from us wizard and witch folk, they do. Some time I'll show ya how to go about that, but for now it's best we return old Boldfeather to his mum and dad. I'd be half led to believe they'd be missin' him by now."
"Can I go with you, Hagrid?" asked the student with the last name Mendle, first name Mary.
"Afraid not, Ms. Mendle," said Hagrid. "His home's a bit deep in the forest for you to be treadin'. But if ya want to wait back a moment, we can go back to my humble abode and have a nice cup of Pumpkin juice. How does that grab ya?"
Ms. Mary Mendle smiled and headed away. She was of course one of the many who loved Hagrid and enjoyed spending time with him on the grounds. Hagrid then turned back to Boldfeather, who had his eyes on the student.
"She's a good lass, that Ms. Mendle is," said Hagrid. "Perhaps a bit later you can make her acquaintance under fairer circumstances. Come on now, Sniffer." And with that he and Sniffer headed deeper into the forest, the hippogriff obediently following his bearded friend.
