WELL I NEED YOU NOW
to hold my hand
Seventh year already. Arya couldn't believe it would be her last year at Hogwarts. It was only the first day of classes, but she could still feel that little twinge of sadness fill her heart. She wasn't sure if it was because she was leaving the home she had known for so long or because she'd be leaving people she loved. Her younger siblings would still be there and she would no longer be able to protect them like she always had. That was her job, her's and River's, ever since they were kids; ever since the fighting began and it carried on into the divorce and then after. It became habit and Arya wasn't sure she was ready to let that go. Her siblings were her whole world.
Until recently.
It was just last year that Arya had met the boy she had started to fall for. All their years at Hogwarts and she had avoided him due to his reputation. But one measly hour at The Three Broomsticks and he had become a part of her life. He wasn't like the person people made him out to be. At least not with her, and that's why she started to find feelings for him. But feeling anything more than friendship scared her. The young Slytherin had never witnessed any relationship in her life work. So how was she supposed to believe it would ever work for her?
That's what she had thought the night she disappeared from him at the dance, even though she made a promise she would never leave him. That one decision was probably the worst she would ever make, but she didn't know what else to do. They were getting close, and fast. It wasn't something she had experienced before, so she fled before it became something more. After that, she lost all contact with him and didn't even write back when she received letters over the summer. If she broke all ties, maybe she would save herself; maybe she would save her heart. Though it seemed that even though she tried, leaving him behind wasn't doing her much good. She still felt the pain of not being around him and it made it worse to know he probably wouldn't forgive her. Maybe it was for the best.
Arya left the common room, her feet carrying her swiftly down the hallways and up the staircases to the third floor where she would be attending Charms class. It seemed as though she was later than she usually liked to be to class. But maybe it was to spare herself from any extra time that could lead to having to confront him. Unfortunately, luck was not on her side that day. As she entered the classroom, she realized her worst fear had struck. There was one seat left, and it was next to him. For a moment, she stood there staring; contemplating what she could do. And without even thinking it over, she turned finding herself trying to escape to where she came from.

### words notes: xx I'LL FIND SOMEONE LIKE YOU The first day of classes was upon them and honestly, Jarrod was a bit scared. After what happened at the end of last year between him and Arya, he wasn't sure he was ready to face her. It was inevitable, though. They were in the same year and house, and while they had managed to avoid each other in the common room thus far and merely caught glimpses in the Great Hall, it was only a matter of time before they had a class together. He hadn't talked to her to even know if they had classes together, but that wasn't his fault at all. After all, she was the one who promised him she would stay in his life for good and then he disappeared. She broke his heart and left him there, devastated and alone. She had been the only girl he let into his heart and she betrayed him. Jarrod didn't know why he still begged for answers, but he hadn't moved on. Not in the slightest.
That was why when the door opened up to the Charms classroom and he looked back and saw her, Jarrod's heart fell into his stomach. The sole seat in the entire classroom that wasn't taken was the empty one to his left - and she knew that. By the reaction on her face, it was obvious that she knew that. Jarrod gulped, wondering what she would do. She did just as she did at the dance, just as she did by not replying to his letters over the summer...she fled. Jarrod turned round and angrily looked down at the parchment in front of him, fighting back tears. How could she do this to him? How could she just leave him there without an explanation, and now flee from the confrontation? Jarrod was angry. He should just let her go, be done with her for good and go back to having a reputation of frequenting girls every night, a different one each night, not giving a damn about Arya Goyle, the girl who broke his heart.
But he couldn't.
Stupidly, he got up and ran after her, breaking through the Charms classroom's doors as though they weren't there at all. He turned immediately to the right and stopped, looking at her, breathing hard. "You're just going to leave? Just like that?" it was all he could bare to ask, his defeated face looking at her in desperate begging. He needed answers, answers for why she could just shut him out of her life like he never existed. She made a promise to him, a promise to stay with him always, and she broke that promise. Jarrod bit his lower lip, determined not to cry and show weakness. He wasn't like this. He was acting so unlike himself - like a little lovesick puppy. But he was lost, broken, confused, and he didn't know how to move on without knowing why he'd lost the only girl his heart found.

WELL I NEED YOU NOW
to hold my hand
Her heart began to beat faster; her palms sweating slightly as they clammed up. Why was she so nervous? He could be just another boy to her, and she'd be fine. But the truth was, he could never be just another boy. He was Jarrod, the Slytherin who took her heart unexpectedly. The raven haired boy whose look could melt her heart and make her weak at the knees. No. He could never be just some other boy to her. But that was exactly her problem. She didn't want this. She didn't want to be caught up in someone, just to have her heart broken. She didn't...
Arya wanted him. The Slytherin girl wanted him in her life more than anything, yet didn't know how to express that properly. That's why when his words rang out, she froze in place. He had come after her. Wasn't that every girl's dream? Still, it didn't make her any less anxious and afraid of what was to come. Emotions were heightened. It was clear in his voice, as well as in the way she felt. She didn't blame him for being upset with her. It was her fault this time, no one else's. She was the only one to blame.
Turning slowly, she looked at him. For the first time since that dance, she allowed herself to really look at him. The realization that she would have to face this fear of hers as well as him, sank in further. Her heart felt like it was ready to crash through her chest at the rate it was going. She couldn't speak. After all, what was she supposed to say to him? Still, she needed to say something, anything.
"You don't understand." Those were the first words to leave her lips, her light brown eyes looking into his. Of course, how was he supposed to? She had never once spoken to him of her family life. How could someone understand what they didn't know? Finding it harder to keep eye contact with each moment that passed by, her eyes became downcast. "I don't know what you want me to say Jarrod. I just... don't know." She told him, her voice barely audible as she continued to keep from looking at him. It was breaking her inside to be doing this to him. She knew he was angry and he was hurt, but she was afraid.

### words notes: luv them I'LL FIND SOMEONE LIKE YOU Jarrod stared at her, eyes stinging, wondering how the heck she could just leave him like that. When she finally spoke, he bit his lower lip. He hadn't heard her voice in so long that it seemed like a dream - a beautiful, wonderful dream. But he couldn't get wrapped up in it. Jarrod knew this was all a facade, she would never come back to him. There was a reason that she kept ignoring him, that she left him at the dance - maybe she simply didn't feel the same way that he did. Maybe she just didn't love him. Jarrod was pretty sure that if that was the case, he didn't know what he would do.
"Don't understand? How can I, Arya?" he asked, his head tilted to the side. Jarrod couldn't understand because she hadn't said anything to make him understand. So, how could he? He shook his head, keeping eye contact as she stared back at him. Those eyes, those gorgeous deep eyes made him melt every time he gazed into them, and now he felt like the person staring back wasn't the same girl he fell in love with. Jarrod looked down as she did, staring at his feet and wondering why he ran after her. He gulped, not knowing what to say. What could he say? He didn't even know what was wrong. How could he fix something he hadn't known was broken all along? Jarrod bit his lip, fighting back tears, knowing this might be the very last time he ever spoke to the girl he loved.
He looked up and reached out to touch her - then stopped. His hand quickly dropped to his side and he shook his head. Jarrod's chest ached with pain and his heart clenched in agony. "Tell me you don't love me, Arya," he whispered. He looked down at the floor and sighed. "Just tell me you don't love me and I'll leave you alone for good. Tell me you don't love me, and I won't ever come for you again," he said softly, closing his eyes. He wanted to hear the words come from her mouth. Jarrod needed to hear it so he could move on. Because if she didn't love him anymore, it was no use to try and keep her in his life. He couldn't handle loving someone who didn't love him back. It would be too painful.
The previous months of unknowing were hard enough, but to know was worse. To know the person you relinquished your heart to was giving it back meant that everything you put on the line was for nothing. And for Jarrod, it was even worse. He never let anyone in because everyone perceived him as the bad boy and nothing more - but Arya saw through him, saw the real him, and gave him a chance to prove he was more than what everyone thought he was. He could be good, he could be brave, he could be kind and loving. Jarrod could be all those things and more given the chance, but Arya took back that chance and now he felt like he was nothing. Everything she brought him up to be fell apart when she left him and never looked back. "Just tell me , please?" he begged, looking up with eyes searching for the truth.

WELL I NEED YOU NOW
to hold my hand
She could feel his stare; those eyes that seemed as though they could see right through her. Arya didn't want to do this to him. She didn't want to hurt him. In fact, that was the last thing she had in mind, but it was hard for her not to and protect herself at the same time. If only she had been smart and stayed away like everyone had told her to, they wouldn't be in this mess. She wouldn't be afraid to get close to him and he wouldn't be afraid of her drifting apart. Sadly, the Slytherin girl was quite aware of what she was doing to him. She could tell just by the way he was looking at her. But she didn't know how to stop it other than giving in. How could she do that when all that ran through her mind was a broken heart and him leaving her? Ironic, seeing as she was doing that to him. They hadn't even been dating, yet she felt he was the most important person in her life at that moment. It felt as though he was the only one who could take her heart and break it into pieces. That was what scared her most, including ending up like her parents had.
His question rang true. How could he understand? How could he know what was going on when she had never told him? He didn't know about her past and he didn't know about why she avoided him, which of course coincided with her history. But now was not the time to bring up such pitiful memories of locking herself in her room; in her closet to drown out the noise of fighting. He didn't need to know right that minute about the divorce and her father barely being there for them. Or the fact that she played mother to her siblings. None of that mattered at that moment... Except it did, because it was the cause of her hesitation. Still, she did not wish to share right then. Not when it was easier to walk away. Until she heard the words he spoke next.
Tell me you don't love me.
Arya froze as she felt her heart skip a beat. She could feel the tears trying to push to the surface, soon reaching their destination and pouring out onto her cheeks. Why did he have to say that? Why did he have to go and make things so much more difficult for her? She did love him, even though she had never said it. He told her he would leave her alone if she said it. Wasn't that what she wanted? To be left alone? It would be easy to just say those words; to tell him that she didn't care for him at all. Her problem would be solved. But she found herself not being able to speak the words, for they were not true. They were no where near true. "I..." No words were coming out. Her mouth would not move even when her mind told it to. She hated herself for being this way, and she wanted to hate him for making her fall in love.
His voice. His eyes. The begging was breaking her down even more. She couldn't stand seeing him like that any longer. She couldn't hurt him anymore, like she was afraid he would hurt her. Her hands shook slightly from nerves as she kept her light brown eyes on him; her features softening involuntarily. "I... I can't say those words to you." She finally choked out as the tears ran even more so. "I can't tell you that because... because.." Taking in a sharp breath, she tried to calm herself down. Once the words were out; once she said those most important words someone could say to the person they cared for most, they were the most vulnerable. "Because I love you. I am in love with you Jarrod, but I'm terrified."

### words notes: luv them I'LL FIND SOMEONE LIKE YOU He waited and waited and waited. Jarrod stared at her with pleading eyes, waiting for her to tell him the inevitable. If she didn't love him, then fine. He'd move on. It'd be hard, really really hard, but eventually he would lead his lonely life and learn from the experience - that he couldn't trust anyone and he could handle being on his own for the rest of his life. But inside, he really wanted her to refuse him, to shout she loved him and to embrace him.
But how could she? Jarrod waited all summer long for her to write back to him. He'd gone all out for the dance and put his heart on the line for her to reject it. It really didn't make sense that he still longed for her. This wasn't a game of playing hard to get; this was straight up rejection. And even still, Jarrod loved her. He continued to stare at her and finally looked down, wondering what to do, what to say. Was there anything to say in a situation like this? All he could do was wait until she spoke up, or until she walked away.
I can't say those words to you.
He looked up and noticed her wet cheeks and immediately his heart stung. Jarrod bit his lower lip. Because I love you. I am in love with you Jarrod, and I'm terrified. He couldn't wait anymore. Jarrod took two big steps forward toward her, placed his hands on either side of her cheek, and kissed her. His left hand moved to the back of her head and cupped her hair in his palm. He finally broke away, breathing hard but lingering in front of her face, staring down into her eyes. Jarrod wiped away her tears with his thumb and offered a small smile. "I love you," he whispered before placing a kiss on her forehead.
Jarrod straightened up slightly but took her hand in his own, dangling them both in the small space between their forms. "You don't need to be terrified, Arya. I...I would never hurt you," he said softly, gazing into her beautiful eyes. Jarrod wanted her to believe him truly and completely, to never worry about getting her heart broken. After all, she was the one who hurt him. If anything, she should be the one to prove to him that she wouldn't hurt him again. Jarrod knew, though, that obviously there was a reason she was worried that he would be the one to hurt her. He didn't know what that reason was, but he knew it was something they would have to work through - and that was something he was willing to do. Arya Goyle was the love of his life, the girl he thought of every day since they met, and the girl who was worth all of his time, effort, and love. He would never give up on her or them, even if it wouldn't be easy.
